MONTANA IS COUNTING
ON YOU!
"Just like we can’t survive without roads and bridges, the country doesn’t function well without an updated Census to distribute funds to areas that most need them and to support community decisions about their own future."
– – Robert M. Groves, Director of the United States Census Bureau
Knowledge |
Census data are used to inform our community’s decisions. It is a snapshot that helps show who we are as a community. Data about changes in our communities are crucial to many planning decisions, such as where to provide services for the elderly, where to build new roads and schools, or where to locate job training centers. |
Funding |
A new Census Bureau report analyzing the use of census statistics in 140 federal grant and direct assistance programs concludes that nationally over $400 billion in total grant funding was allocated in fiscal year 2007 based in whole or in part on data from the agency’s decennial census (which includes the on-going American Community Survey), annual population estimates, and other Census Bureau statistical programs. |
Representation |
Political empowerment -the census count is used to determine how many representatives from a state will serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and for redistricting efforts at all levels of government including your local voting precincts. The importance of the Census has not diminished since 1790 when it was mandated in Article 1, Section 2 of the Constitution of the United States. |
